Katelyn's first Christmas Eve!

Christmas Eve! 2011

*************************************************************************************

Blessed! We are all so truly blessed with God's love, family, friends and much more. I feel even more blessed this Christmas Eve being a DADDY! Just a few minutes ago, I had the honor of reading the Christmas story for little Katelyn from her Children's Bible. From an early age, I want her to know Jesus! And the true meaning of Christmas. A couple of days ago, our nephew Jack gave his heart to Jesus. He was full of excitement as he told Melissa and me last night. Praise God!

Melissa, myself and baby Katelyn wish everyone a Merry Christmas! We pray this Christmas 2011 will be a joyous celebration for all. New Destiny Church will not be having our regular Sunday service tomorrow. We encourage everyone to have church with your family this Sunday. Spend a little time reading the Christmas story and reflecting on His LOVE, forgiveness and PEACE!

In just a couple of weeks, New Destiny Community Church will be having our Grand Opening Celebration!

Blessings,

New Destiny news - facility update!

*************************************************************************************

On behalf of New Destiny Community Church, I would like to thank everyone that has partnered with us as a church and with our new facility. We now have had over 50 people help with the facility. Just this past Friday, New Destiny Church was featured in the Denver Weekly (local newspaper) regarding our new facility! Thank you Denver Weekly for positive news.

I knew that from the beginning of seeing this church facility and signing the lease, that it was move bigger than we could handle on our own... but we knew it was a GOD MOVE! And when God says to move, HE provides. I understand that does not mean it is easy, but it will get done and HE will supply.

New Destiny now has plenty chairs to handle weekly ministry as well as special events. Two different friends contacted us to provide the chairs. Many Thanks! Last week, we found out we did not have outside lighting. Not good. Yesterday, an electrician friend came and helped with the outside lighting. Praise God! We now have outside lighting and lighting on the Church Sign. We worked on the plumbing and it is working better. But we have been having issues with water pressure working consistently. We have narrowed it down to we need to pull the pump in the well. God will give us wisdom and this will be fixed this week!

We have come a long way in a short few weeks, but we certainly know there is more that needs to be done. New Destiny is excited because of the many lives that will be transformed from the ministry here at our new facility. The many people that will see us, come and be changed for eternity.

We still can use many more to partner with us in prayer, financial partnership and / or volunteer partnership. Please contact us if you are able to help in any way. Thank you!

After months of searching, Pastor Mike Teeter has found a permanent home for his New Destiny Community Church congregation.

The new sanctuary and fellowship hall are located at 626 S. Hwy. 16, between Stanley and Denver, the former location of Lake Norman Church of God. Teeter’s congregation had been meeting in various venues, including the Club at Westport.

The logistics of setting up sound and a stage every week at the club helped push the church to find a dedicated New Destiny space.

“We are thankful for the Club at Westport for letting us use their facility,” Teeter said. “But now it will be nice to have our own place.”

Once the lease was signed, Teeter and a large group of volunteers set to work freshening up the new building.

“It had been vacant for several months,” Teeter said. “We had a big, three-day work session last week, and about forty people showed up to help.”

Teeter and volunteers cleaned carpets, painted, built a stage and scrubbed every surface, Teeter said.

A young church formed by Teeter in 2009, New Destiny has about fifty members and is looking to the future. Space in the new building will allow it to grow.

The church will hold a grand opening on Jan. 7, 2012, to celebrate its first home.
“We can have dinners and special events in the fellowship hall,” Teeter said. “It can accommodate about sixty people.”

Room for a nursery will allow more parents of young children to attend worship.

“We also plan to start a ministry for children,” Teeter said. “We are looking to grow. The main sanctuary can hold between 150 and 200 people.”

The church’s location on busy S. Hwy. 16 is also a plus.

“It will give us some good exposure,” Teeter said. “We have a new sign up that will be easy to spot.”

Teeter is already holding soft opening services in the new building, and has planned a grand opening ribbon cutting on Jan. 7.

New Destiny has signed a long-term lease on the building, but Teeter says the church may eventually buy it.

Denver church reaches out to S.C. prison inmates
JENNA-LEY HARRISON
Staff Writer

One Denver church is reaching out to inmates at a South Carolina prison this season with hopes of spiritually encouraging them through a simple holiday dinner.
New Destiny Community Church has been volunteering with the Holiday Dinner Program at Kershaw Correctional Institution in Kershaw, S.C., for the last three years.
New Destiny Pastor Mike Teeter, who heads up the initiative, has personally assisted with the program for four years.
He has no doubt that the annual outreach dinner is one of many prison ministry programs of which he’s been a part over the years which has helped to mold inmates into people who can more successfully function on the other side of their bars.
“They need a network of people who can direct them in the right direction,” Teeter said.
Because there are around 1,500 inmates at the Kershaw facility, the dinner takes place on 10 different nights, ensuring a special holiday meal for each person.
“Any person needs to know they are cared for and loved,” Teeter said. “This time of year a lot of people get down and out, not just in prison but in life.”
This Saturday is the final night of the Holiday Dinner Program. This year’s program started the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, with a couple dinners taking place that following week.
While only a handful of area churches were on the volunteer list during the dinner program’s commencement year, Teeter noted that over the years more than 30 groups have pulled together to make the program spring to life.
Churches from Concord, Rock Hill and Raleigh, among other locations across the Carolinas, have assisted the event by either entertaining inmates with music or catering a set amount of food, provided by church donations. Individuals also often share their faith-filled testimonies with the audience.
Teeter noted that the inmates will also get to enjoy a 15 to 20 minute skit presentation during this weekend’s “grand finale” dinner. The performance will be given from the perspective of the innkeeper mentioned in the Biblical Christmas story of Christ’s birth.
Teeter is thankful for the opportunity to “pour into these men’s lives,” he said of the inmates.
“A lot of these men don’t get visits from family and friends,” he said, “and often we are the only ones who come in and show we care… If they have different churches they’ve connected with…when they get out, it will help them transition into society and help them transform spiritually.”
Overseeing the Holiday Dinner Program has also been a spiritual experience for Teeter.
“It shows me how God touches and changes lives,” Teeter said. “I’ve seen men down in life, depressed and on the wrong path…but now, through them seeing people care…they’ve turned and done a 180.”
Starting Sunday, New Destiny Community Church will now meet at a facility owned by Lake Norman Church of God. The building is located at 626 Highway 16 South in Denver. New Destiny formerly held its weekly worship services at Denver’s Westport Country Club.
Anyone wishing to find out more information on the church or interested in volunteering with next year’s Holiday Dinner Program or other prison ministry outreach opportunity, can contact the church at 704-947-3829 or Mike Teeter at 803-448-5699.
Individuals can also email Mike at pastormteeter@hotmail.com or visit the church website at www.newdestinydenver.org.

Prison Holiday Dinner - Friday night, December 2nd

*************************************************************************************

The Holidays are finally upon us and once again we are thankful to be taking an outreach team to the prison to share God's love. We team up with other churches to combine our resources regarding food and program. There will be around 175 inmates at the dinner - program. This is our fourth year doing the Holiday - Program at the prison. Each year we bring a fancy holiday dinner with all the side dishes and dessert. We are sure to bring plenty of food! Many of the inmates remember this night for months to come.

Each year, we put together a Holiday program with the message of God's Love! This year we have special music from College Student Ministries and our worship Leader is bringing a powerful short drama presentation. The drama is from the perspective of the inn keeper. We are believing many inmates will hear the Reason for the Season and come to Jesus!

New Destiny Community Church is handling desserts, rolls and some lemonade. If you would like to provide some food or possibly come to this outreach, please contact us ASAP. Please partner with us in prayer as well. Thank you!

At best count, at least 13 made repentive decisions. Many other men came forward for other prayer needs as well. We praise God for transformed lives!

New Destiny News!

Greeting! Recently, I shared from Exodus 14 when preaching the Red Sea story.

Exodus 14:15

15 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.

God is calling us to earnestly seek HIM, to spend time in His presence and believe! To believe in FAITH for far more than we could ever hope, believe or have seen. But while we have cried out to Jesus and spent time hearing HIS voice, He calls us to to action... to MOVE ON. God would challenge all of us to take action! To move on.... to be All In! We are believing for a true Move of God in our lives, families and Denver, NC (and surrounding area).

Pastor Mike Teeter has been involved in prison ministry off-and-on for more than 20 years and now he’s in the process of encouraging the congregation of his newly-established Denver church to follow suit.

Although New Destiny Community Church was formed in April 2010 and is currently about 30 members strong, Mike is confident that the work that he and his fellow church-goers are doing for local inmates within the Prison to Society ministry is straight from the hand of God.

“God put everything together,” he said.

NDCC is part of a church plant that Mike and his wife Melissa founded last year with help from its “parent church” Lake Wylie Christian Assembly in South Carolina.

Through LWCA, where the couple formerly attended church, Mike served as a volunteer chaplain with the PTS ministry at South Carolina’s Kershaw County Detention Center, which houses more than 1,500 inmates.

Joann Cook, head chaplain at Kershaw, helped launch the PTS program.

Prior to getting involved with the prison’s ministry, Mike noted that he had ample missions experience.

He served on a year-long missions trip to Central America where he taught a variety of subjects at a bi-lingual school, he said. More specific to the PTS program, he had been visiting a number of jail facilities, including women’s prisons, for decades.

“I had a heart for it already,” he noted.

However, it wasn’t until 2004 that he started to get more heavily involved in the spiritual needs of inmates.

NDCC is one of many churches that volunteers with the PTS program. Other congregations include Calvary Baptist Church and Woodlawn United Methodist Church, both in Rock Hill, S.C., among others.

With only eight total churches helping with the program in 2005, more than 40 churches currently assist Prison to Society and aid inmates in becoming both “more responsible citizens” and more “complete in Christ,” according to a PTS brochure.

“It’s easier to get things done if you do it together,” Mike said of the churches’ joint effort.

The program offers nearly 70 chapel services a year as well as an annual holiday dinner each December for all Kershaw prisoners.

However, only those inmates who are within six to 18 months of being released can enter the program.

PTS offers inmates more than just faith-centered instruction. A large portion of the program centers on educational teaching and socialization skills, such as how to handle money, and other proficiencies necessary for appropriately transitioning into life beyond “bars.”

Mike noted that, upon release, prisoners can even become involved in a special program to help them find jobs.

“They’ve really grown in helping men become a success,” he said. “They also have a support system when they get out.”

Of the more than 100 men who have entered the PTS program over the last couple of years, a majority have graduated including five former inmates who celebrated their completion of the program on Aug. 26. Each of the men spoke about their experience with the program and even shared their testimonies at the graduation celebration.

Mike noted that one graduate in particular brought him to tears after the jailed individual read aloud an original poem, entitled “God’s Plan Through Prison Time” — an autobiographical rhyme about his journey of spiritual change.

His heart’s transformation and attitude change is evident when comparing the poem’s opening line:

“Lord, at first this prison seemed like sinking sand,” and closing lines, “You placed me in a cell to bring me forth as ‘gold!’”

Because Mike has no doubt that God changes lives for the better through the PTS program, he hopes that all Christians will take an initiative to reach others for the faith, even if that doesn’t entail entering a prison facility.

“Everyone that’s a Christian should go outside the ‘four walls,’ ” he said, “whether that be a prison, nursing home or orphanage. In some way, get beyond yourselves.”

Although Mike personally believes that the PTS program has a “high success rate,” he understands that it’s still too soon and the program’s still too young to accurately determine that outlook.

“It hasn’t been enough time to get a good sampling,” he said.

New Destiny Community Church currently holds services at Westport Country Club in Denver until the church can find a more permanent location. Their main service is 6 p.m. on Sunday.

For more information on NDCC or the PTS ministry, contact 704-947-3829 or check them out on Facebook or on their Website at www.newdestinydenver.org.

The next PTS chapel service at Kershaw is set for Nov. 12. The holiday dinner is scheduled for Dec. 2.

New Destiny News!

God has huge things in store for our lives and for New Destiny! I am believing just as the Red Sea divided, many of us have been trusting and obeying the Lord and are ready for a Red Sea miracle. The type of miracle where it will take GOD to come through. I am praying and believing for all of us!

New Destiny volunteers at South Carolina prison

When Pastor Mike Teeter, of New Destiny Community Church, in Denver, decided to get his congregation involved in outreach programs, few of those volunteers could have imagined that they would see the inside of a prison.
“We are a small congregation of about 25 to 30 members,” Teeter said. “Yet, we wanted to not just minister to our own families, but to communities as well.”
New Destiny sent members to work with Chaplain Joann Cook at Kershaw Correctional Institution in Kershaw, S.C. They not only ministered to inmates, but helped prepare a celebratory feast for a large group of them that took part in a special program called Prison to Society.
“I have nothing but good things to say about Pastor Teeter and New Destiny Community Church,” Cook said. “They are very gracious and the volunteers bring light to this prison.”
In addition to his own congreation, Teeter also enlisted the aid of several other churches to help in the campaign, including New Destiny Community Church’s mother church, Lake Wylie Christian Assembly.
Prison to Society was set up at Kershaw Correctional Institution two years ago to help inmates get ready for a successful transition back into everyday life. About 100 inmates are involved in the program at Kershaw Correctional Institution, and most are due for release in a year or so.
The faith-based program connects inmates with positive role models, families and churches like New Destiny Community Church.
“It is interesting to see how the power of the Gospel can change lives,” Teeter said.
The program also hones the intellectual and life skills of the participants by offering General Education Development classes as well as courses in anger management, employability, managing finances, communication skills, and self-discipline.
After they’re released, former inmates can still find help from Prison to society with issues like clothing and job search.
The effort that inmates put into the program pays off in many ways, including the graduation dinner ceremony. Besides ministering to the spiritual side of things at Kershaw Correction Institution, Teeter and about 16 members of his congregation also contributed by preparing the dinner.
“We made fried chicken with all the trimmings,” Teeter said. “It was just to show them how much their hard work and good behavior was appreciated. They said it was a real blessing.”
An extra treat during the dinner was music by three women from the ministry team.
All the work that Teeter and his crew have done at Kershaw Correctional Institution has been well-received.
“Churches like New Destiny Community Church truly make a difference in the lives of our inmates,” said Warden Cecelia Reynolds. “We are blessed by having them come and volunteer in events such as the graduation dinner.”
Teeter said he sees New Destiny doing more prison outreach work at Kershaw Correctional Institution sometime soon.
“We plan to hold a holiday dinner on Dec. 2 for members of the general prison population that have shown good behavior,” Teeter said. “It will be a good meal with turkey and ham. We will also present a gospel Christmas message and music.”
New Destiny Community Church meets Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. at The Club at Westport, 2525 Shanklin Lane. Anyone interested in the church or volunteering in its programs can visit the church website at www.newdestinydenver.org.
