K Love news! New Destiny mentioned on national radio

************************************************************************************

Pastor Mike Teeter and his congregation from the New Destiny Community Church (AG) in Denver, North Carolina, spent a recent Friday evening where relatively few congregations do — behind bars.

On August 26, Teeter and his congregation weren’t arrested and dragged off to jail. Instead, they were in Kershaw (South Carolina) Correctional Institution by choice, providing a celebration meal for inmates graduating from the Prison to Society program.

“New Destiny is a new church plant (2010),” Teeter explains, “and it is my goal that this church focuses outwardly.”

Teeter, who has been involved off and on in prison ministries over the past 20 years, and more regularly in the last five or so years, has seen God work in miraculous ways, taking lives and transforming them. He became involved in the Prison to Society (PTS) program, which helps prepare prisoners for the transition from prison life into society, and saw an ideal ministry opportunity for his fledgling church — helping inmates celebrate their successful completion of the program.

The two-year PTS program, spearheaded by Kershaw Chaplain JoAnn Cook, offers focused study on education, relationships and spiritual applications. Following their release from prison, the former inmates can still access a year’s worth of additional guidance from the program to help with needs such as clothing, job hunting, helping them to connect with the right people and building relationships.

As prisoners go through the PTS program, on their way to graduation and release from prison, their achievements are culminated with a celebration service and meal. That's where Teeter and New Destiny Community Church asked Chaplain Cook if they could step in. Yet with a young congregation that only averages about 25 to 30 a week, hosting a meal for more than 100 hungry inmates and staff along with providing an evening program is a serious challenge.

So Teeter did what any small church should do — he reached out to other churches in the community to join them in making this outreach to prisoners an impacting success.

"We were joined by a Baptist Church and a Methodist church, Fire School of Ministry as well as our mother church, Lake Wylie Christian Assembly," Teeter says. "We provided a meal of fried chicken with sides and dessert. And while the prisoners ate, three sisters from our ministry team sang a capella — and let me tell you, they can sing."

Following the meal, Teeter was able to speak briefly to the inmates. As most of the inmates in the room already had a relationship with Christ due to their involvement in PTS, Teeter says his message was one that challenged inmates as they embraced the future. "All we've heard back have been good reports," Teeter says. "The inmates and prison chaplains, appreciated our desire and willingness to serve."

Now that the outreach is over, Teeter says that he and his church are looking forward to being back in prison on a regular basis.

"It [prison] is not as scary as you might think, when you come in God's love," Teeter says, encouraging other churches to explore prison ministry. "Having had this experience at Kershaw, our people already want to get more involved — they want to volunteer as well as give financially towards our prison ministry."

For more information about prison ministry opportunities for the local church, contact the chaplain of a nearby correctional facility and inquire about how the church can help him or her minister to the inmates.

Thank you - Fire School of Ministry!

New Destiny Community Church would like to thank Fire School of Ministry for their powerful, impactful ministry! They have teamed up with us for a couple of recent prison ministy outreaches and also, last week's Celebration Service. We appreciate team leader Jiska for coming and putting together students (and friends outside of Fire School) to touch and impact lives. The last prison outreach saw 13 salvation decisions and 36 others prayed for regarding other needs.

Our Mission

From our newdestinydenver.org website:

WELCOME TO NEW DESTINY COMMUNITY CHURCH
Phone: 704.947.3829
Email: info@newdestinydenver.org

Our Strategy

Our plan is to impact people one life at a time through personal
relationships. We want to develop community with God and one another
within our workplaces, neighborhoods, schools – wherever we live life
day to day.

What is the mission?

New Destiny Community Church is committed to reaching the
unchurched and over churched of the Denver / West Lake Norman
area by serving the community, relevant creative teaching and genuine
transparent relationships where Jesus Christ is priority and the gospel
transforms lives.

The Ministry Model: How is New Destiny going to look in the
next year or two? What is the basic model we expect to see?

1. Weekly Celebration Services: currently we plan to have Sunday
services from 6:00 – 7:30pm.

2. Small Groups: we plan to have bi weekly home groups. We believe
small group/home groups are vital to building true community and unity
as we grow as believers.

3. Servant Evangelism: we plan to connect with our community and to do
ongoing events that serve our community on at least a monthly basis.

4. New Destiny Breakthrough Prayer:
we plan to have ongoing weekly prayer opportunities.
But once a month we plan to have a focus night of
prayer.

5. Outreaches: we plan to reach out to those in our community, state
and the world.

6. Mission Trips: we plan to do regular (min of yearly) overseas and/or
statewide mission trips.

7. Connection Events: Church can and should be fun! We plan to be a
church that gives time for relaxing social fun times.

Our core values:

1 WE BELIEVE...The Scriptures are inspired by God and declare His
design and plan for mankind.

2. WE BELIEVE...In the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. As God's son Jesus
was both human and divine.

3. WE BELIEVE...Every Person Can Have Restored Fellowship with God
Through 'Salvation' (accepting Christ's offer of forgiveness for sin).

4. WE BELIEVE...The Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are
lost in sin. We believe 'the Church' is the Body of Christ and consists of the
people who, throughout time, have accepted God's offer of redemption
(regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His
son Jesus Christ.

We exist to:

…to reach people for Jesus Christ!

…to build sincere transparent relationships.

…to teach relevant authentic messages that transform lives!

New Destiny News!

Wow! What a powerful, impactful 2011 summer. Over the last few months, we have been on the radio many times sharing God's love, were a part of the Denver Fireworks Celebration (handing out over a 1000 bottles of water and Pastor Mike praying before the Fireworks - over 10,000 people came out), we had our first Saturday church / cookout - pool party and we have been a part of couple of prison outreaches. In the last few weeks, we have had our first Baby Dedication service - yeah for Babies Jonas Martinez and Katelyn Teeter - and their parents (also, thank you to Pastor Paul Gaskin and Pastor Jim Kelly) and then the Neely Concert!

This is to name just a few things that have happened in the last few months. Most of all, God is touching lives and helping New Destiny gain favor and connections in our community to further impact this area for Him! Recently, we have started having Home Group Bible Study on a regular basis. We invite you to be a part!
We ask that you continue partner with us in anyway you are able to and God leads. New Destiny Community Church needs those that would rise up as prayer and / or financial partners. We ask that you hold Melissa and I, as well as the church in pray. We want to be guided and led by God. Moving in Faith and HIS will. We know He has huge things in store for our lives and as a church. He has been preparing our lives for a Destiny Dream - a Dream bigger than we are! A dream and Destiny that takes God!
